Engine layouts
The configurations that have been in the garage, and a few that haven't.
Flat / boxer
Horizontally opposed cylinders, low centre of gravity. Seven Subarus in the ledger: EJ25 in the 2.5RS and Forester, turbo EJ20/EJ25 in the WRXs, EJ257 in the STI, FA24 in the Ascents.
High-revving inline-four
The Type R's B18C5: 1.8 litres, 195 hp, 8,400 rpm redline, hand-ported head. The Integra LS ran the B18B, the Civic SiR the B16.
Diesel
The BJ40's 3B: 3.4 litres, four cylinders, indirect injection, mechanical pump, glow plugs for cold starts.
American V8
The Grand Prix's Pontiac V8 with a TH350 automatic. The Cadillac DTS ran the Northstar V8.
Redblock inline-four
The 240's 2.3-litre overhead-cam four. Iron block, chain-driven cam.
A-series
The Midget's 1275 cc pushrod four, shared with the Mini Cooper S.
Motorcycle inline-four
Liquid-cooled, four valves per cylinder, cassette gearbox.
Outboard
The bowrider's outboard: engine, gearcase and propeller in one unit on the transom.
Rotary and inline-six
Mazda's 13B and Toyota's 2JZ and 1FZ have not been in the garage.
